August, 5: Historical for BJP, a day of betrayals for others

Though both the Narendra Modi led Government at the centre and as well as the BJP as a ruling party in the country reserve the right to claim that August 5 is a historical day as the BJP led Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi reduced the only muslim majority erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state to a union territory and withdrew to it the several decades old special status just in one stroke on August 5 last year and choose the same day ,i.e, August 5 for laying the foundation of Ram temple at the demolished site of 500 year old Babri Masjid this year. Undoubtedly August 5 a day becoming historical for the BJP and the hard core affiliates of Sangh Parivar particularly the RSS comes only 10 days before the Independence day celebrated on August 15. The attempt to put the country on celebration mode on August 5, ten days before the Independence day is obviously directed at making August 5 the anniversary of scrapping the special status and foundation day of Ram Temple an annual national festival. While the fact remains that nowhere in the country general public joined the BJP sponsored celebrations on the first anniversary of Article 370 roll back, the public response would be equally discouraging for the BJP on Ram Temple foundation next year. The BJP led Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by misusing it’s brute majority in the parliament can even change the constitution but it can’t change the hearts and minds of billions of India believing in the pluralistic character of the country by changing laws and building religious places at the demolished religious sites of other faiths in the country.

Top helmsmen in both Jammu & Kashmir Government and as well as at the centre may call August 5 a historical day but for the people of Jammu & Kashmir the August 5 is the day of a bigger betrayal and for the people in rest of the country August 5 is day of  mourning of millions of India who saw Prime Minister of  the world’s biggest democracy laying the foundation of Ram Temp on the demolished site of a 500 old mosque .

Article 370 abrogation anniversary has almost isolated BJP even in it’s strong bastions in Jammu region where general public has stayed away from the BJP sponsored celebrations and as such the time has come for the BJP top brass to read the writing on the wall. A single party sponsoring the celebrations on Article 370 abrogation  anniversary and Ramp Temple foundation laying but other parties not becoming the part of such celebrations and instead condemning the sponsors of such celebrations conveys a message that  BJP ceases the right to impose the policies of it’s own whims and wishes over billions of people in the country.   The replacement of the Lt Governor of Jammu & Kashmir on the first anniversary of article 370 abrogation and J&K reorganization act 2019 amid reports of controversies over the election timing and the restoration of 4 G internet services shows that the people commanding and controlling the Jammu & Kashmir Government can’t resist the public pressures on key policy issues too long and have to identify themselves with the core public sentiments on the basic citizenship rights sooner or late. No doubt Chief Secretary and Director General Police defend the central government’s last year’s August 5 decisions on Jammu & Kashmir for one or the other reason, but some time some day they too will have to identify themselves with the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir over basic citizenship right of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
