SMC intensifies desilting of drains across Srinagar city

Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Thursday intensified desilting of drains across Srinagar city. The move has come in wake of directions passed by Chief Secretary J&k Srinagar, recently in a VC held on 20.7.2020 that aimed at reviewing the situation of flood preparedness…
Commissioner SMC Gazanfar Ali said SMC has intensified the desilting of drains in various parts of the city via Jawahar Nagar, Maisuma Lal Chowk, Margarmal Bagh, Karan Nagar, Kani Kadal, Batmaloo, Zainakadal etc. The required cleaning / desilting of all the drains will take place gradually in a phased manner in all areas and the concerned officials of Sanitation & drainage division shall regularly monitor and inspect the desilting process .
Chief Secretary has also directed SMC to visit and inspect all the dewatering stations to check their functionality so that in case of any crisis these dewatering stations including dewatering pumps work smoothly to meet out any eventuality. Ali said a drill was conducted in May this year which was inspected by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir
With a spike in COVID-19 positive cases, SMC has decided to decentralise the sanitisation/ decontamination drive at ward level only for prompt and effective action… As per the Order No 879 of 2020 dated 21. 7.2020 , the nodal officer of SMC in DC office shall forward the list of positive cases to I/c Operations who will forward the cases/particulars to the respective ward officers and Inspector vehicles for necessary decontamination.
The ward officers in this regard shall be provided two Thermal Fogger / sprayer each in addition to the equipments already provided to them to act at the spots where positive cases shall be detected at their own level without consuming time The ward officer shall prepare a roster of decontamination staff at their own level for sanitisation of particular areas and the concerned ward officer shall submit the action taken report to the head of the operations by or before 5.pm on a daily basis, further reads the order.
