COVID-19: 30 discharged from SKIMS Bemina after recovery

Srinagar: 30 patients were discharged from SKIMS Bemina Hospital Friday after recuperating from COVID-19 and successfully testing negative prior to discharging.
With this the total figure of recovered patients has raised to 529 out of 640 COVID-19 positive patients admitted till date from April 2020, taking the overall recovery rate to 82.6 percent.
The admitted patients in these 3 months included 34 COVID positive patients who had multiple ailments like Coronary Artery Disease, Hypertension, Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD), Hypothyroidism, Stroke, Renal Failure and some other Comorbid conditions with Respiratory Distress.
Out of these 35 patients 05 could not fight due to COVID Pneumonia and lost their life with a mortality rate of 0.7 percent for this institution, while 29 managed recovery with the efforts of the COVID Management Team headed by the Department of General Medicine.
The initial functioning started with 50 to 100 Tests a day and has been brought to daily capacity of more than 500 Tests a day with 24260 tests performed till date on samples taken from various centres across the valley as well as the testing done on admitted patients here before their discharge.
To ensure round the clock availability of oxygen, the Oxygen Concentrator Plan of 750 Litres per minute capacity was commissioned in the month of March, 2020 besides this some measures were taken to ensure safety of the staff performing their duties particularly in Operation Theatres and ICU with infrastructural modifications etc.
Subsequently maternity service of available 10 Beds in SKIMS Bemina (JVC) was augmented to 20 Beds keeping in view the high influx of complicated pregnancies being referred to this Institution.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynae with the support of Anaesthesiology Department have conducted 47 deliveries which include 28 major surgeries (LSCS) for complicated pregnancies.
Keeping in view the career of MBBS students, this Institution is providing online teaching to more than 500 students pursuing studies here and the examinations of Post-graduate students (MD/MS) are also being conducted under SKIMS (Deemed) University.
