Jammu: Girls have yet again outclassed boys in higher secondary school examinations, the result of which was declared on Sunday by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education. However, Government Schools have also excelled in the overall pass percentage.

As per an official gazette issued by the J&K BOSE, the total pass percentage is 77 per cent. Boys passed out with 73 per cent, while girls’ pass out percentage was 82.

Total number of students enrolled were 33779, out of which 26139 cleared the examination. Total 44 students were absent, 24 were declared disputed eligibilty, 10 results to be declared later on and 72 were cases of unfair means.

Total 57 per cent boys passed in the Arts stream, 85 per cent in Commerce Stream and 81 per cent in Science stream.

In girls, pass percentage in Arts stream was 74 per cent, in Commerce 95 per cent and in Science 89 per cent.

Director of School Education, Jammu Anuradha Gupta, while thanking the J&K BOSE for declaring the result in difficult times of COVID-19, said that overall pass percentage was 77.38 per cent and the government schools have performed brilliantly.

She said that from 55.70 per cent last year, the government schools have moved up to 73 per cent this year, showing an increase of 17.3 per cent. In case of Private schools, it was 73.07 per cent last year, reaching 85 per cent this year, with an increase of 11.93 per cent.

Total 26 students of Government schools shared top positions in Science, including first position shared by three students of Government schools and two of private schools, she added.

The Director said that second position is also bagged by a Government school.

In Arts, nine students among top 10, including second position, in Commerce, 2 students among top 10 including second and eighth position and in Home Science,  seven students among top 10 are from government schools.

Ms Gupta also appealed to parents that if their children could not get through, be friendly to them, interact to them, spend time and do not be judgmental.

She, however, said that due to uncertainty in view of prevailing situation, the Directorate of School Education, in collaboration with UNICEF, has also announced ‘Manzilein,’ an online career guidance programme. Initiatives like “Aao Baat Karein” have already been introduced, to de-stress them, she added.
