Post Sabzar killing, Day 3: Shutdown, curfew like restrictions cripple Kashmir

Srinagar/May,26: Amid complete shutdown, authorities imposed curfew and restrictions in different parts of Valley to maintain law and order.
Scores of people had suffered injuries while some of them are still stated to be critical even as one civilian was killed in clashes that spread in Kashmir after the killing of two militants including Hizb Commander Sabzar Ahmed Bhat.
Bhat was killed in Saimouh village of South Kashmir’s Tral town on Saturday.
“We don’t want any such situation that emerged after the killing of Hizb poster boy Burhan Wani should emerge again. Situation is completely under control. Strict curfew has been imposed in restive areas across Kashmir Valley,” said a top police official.
District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmed Lone said that curfew continued in seven police station areas of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safa Kadal, Kralkhud and Maisuma for the second day.
Reports said that curfew like restrictions were imposed in all the four districts of South Kashmir including Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam while authorities had sealed all the routes leading to Tral, the native town of militant commander Sabzar Ahmed Bhat.
Restrictions had been also imposed in some districts of North and Central Kashmir. “Amid curfew like restrictions, a complete shutdown is being observed by people in South Kashmir. Not to speak of vehicular movement in the interiors, even Srinagar-Jammu Highway wore a deserted look,” said a local from Qazigund in South Kashmir.
Kashmir Valley has been on the edge since Saturday when Hizbul commander, Sabzar Bhat was killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Saimoh village of Pulwama district along with his associate, Faizan Ahmad.
Both belonged to Rathsuna village of Tral tehsil where they were buried in the village’s martyr’s graveyard as thousands attended their burial.
Separatists have asked people to observe a protest shutdown on Monday and appealed them to March to Tral town on Tuesday.
Train services remained suspended on Monday for the third consecutive day. According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, class work in all the schools/Higher Secondary Institutions and Colleges of Kashmir Valley shall remain suspended today (May 30) as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, restrictions will continue for third consecutive day on Tuesday in various parts of Srinagar district falling under jurisdiction of seven police stations.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Lone said strict restrictions shall remain imposed in areas falling under Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, MR Gunj, Rainawari, Maisuma and Kralkhud police stations.
The District Magistrate further ordered that all the colleges and schools in district Srinagar will remain closed on 30 May 2107.
According to District Magistrate Anantnag strict restrictions would be in place in the territorial jurisdiction of the district tomorrow on 30 May, 2017 to prevent breach of peace and loss of life in view of the prevailing law and order situation.
