Srinagar/June, 16: Three militants were on Tuesday morning killed in a gunfight in Turkawangam village south Kashmir’s Shopian district after a cordon an search operation (CASO) was launched on specific information abut the presence of militants .
“As the government forces started searches the militants fired on the forces a personnel who retaliated and in the heavy exchange of fire three militants were killed”, said a police official,adding that “two AK-47 rifles and an INSAS rifle were seized from the site, he added. The operation is still in progress. However the identity of the militants is yet to be ascertained “.
As many as 19 militants have been killed in five gunfights in south Kashmir since June 7, 17 of them in Shopian district. All the militants killed in the earlier four gunfights were locals.
