Top Kashmir jurist, academcian, former PaK MLA Justice Sharief Hussain Bukhari passes away,death widely mourned

Srinagar: Syed Sharif Hussain Bukhari, a promising Kashmiri jurist, a veteran politician, a former judge of Lahore High Court, a former member of the Pak Administered Kashmir (PaK) assembly and an academician of great repute left for heavenly abode Tuesday morning at his residence at Judges Colony Lahore in Pakistan. The demise of justice Syed Sharif Hussain Bukari has been widely mourned. He headed the first batch of travels through Karvan-e- Aman bus rout to Kashmir in the year 2005 when the then Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister welcome him at Karvan-e- Aman entry post in Uri.
Born in 1936 in Kreeri village of district Baramulla, Justice Bukhari received early education at Kreeri and Sopore in Kashmir. He pursued his LL.B. Degree at University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan and started Law Practice at Lahore, in 1961. He was enrolled as Advocate of the erstwhile West Pakistan High Court in 1963 and as Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1968. Later he was enrolled as senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1999. He was enrolled as Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pak Administered Kashmir (PaK) in 1975. He was named visiting Professor of the Punjab University Law College, Lahore, Pakistan in 1973 but discontinued the key job for some and rejoined as Visiting Professor of this College in 2000 and held the position till last moment. His subjects of teaching were Islamic Jurisprudence, Mohammadan Law and Interpretation of Statutes. He joined Quaid-e-Azam Law College Lahore as senior faculty member in 1999 and held the position till the last moment. He was also teaching Administrative Law. He retired as Judge of the Lahore High Court, Pakistan in 1998 and was M.L.A. of Pak Administered Kashmir assembly from 1975-1977. “Social Justice in Islam and Human Rights” was the subject of his deep interest.Those who took to biggest social media platform facebook to condole his demise include veteran Kashmiri journalist Yousuf Jammeel, retired IAS Officer Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari and former minister Syed Ab Rasheed of Kokernag Anantnag.
