Srinagar: Two troopers of Border Security Forces (BSF) were on Wednesday killed in a militant attack at Pandch on outskirts of Srinagar city .
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar said that three bike- borne militants fired upon two BSF personnel at a shop near Naka party.
He said the BSF personnel had gone to buy something from a local shop when the bike -borne militants fired upon them. “One of the BSF solider died on spot while the other was moved for medical treatment but he succumbed to his injuries at hospital,” he said.
IGP confirmed that two weapons of the slain soldiers were also snatched by the militants. He also said the whole area has been cordoned to track down the militants early.
The two slain BSF personnel were identified as constable Rana Modol (Regt No. 098770133) and constable Jiaul Haque (Regt No. 130843597 CT). The troopers were part of C’ company of 37th Battalion BSF’, deployed as a part of Adhoc K- 7 Battalion BSF in Pandach area for law and order duty since August 2019.
The BSF said that militants took away the weapons of the soldiers. The attack took place a day after two militants were killed in a gunfight in Nawa Kadal area of downtown Srinagar.
This is the third hit-and-run attack by militants in Kashmir Valley in the past 32 days. On April 18, three paramilitary CRPF personnel were killed in a militant attack in Sopore.
