Srinagar/May,26: Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay, Friday said the Government will establish industrial estates in Ladakh region by roping in Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (SICOP).

The Minister said this while chairing a meeting with Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh Dr Sonam Dawa and CEC Kargil Kachoo Ahmed Ali Khan here Friday. The meeting discussed a wide range of issues and measures initiated by the Government for overall development of the desert district.             The CEC Kargil and CEC Leh said with the setting up of industrial units, the region will not only flourish and see the dawn of development and progress but it will play a pivotal role in addressing unemployment as well.

On the occasion, Dorjay asked the Chief Executives to identify suitable sites for the establishment of the industrial zones and recommend the locations for the allotment of plots to the SICOP.

He said the initiative will lead to rise of incoming generating units in the hilly region and provide a way for youth to be employment generators rather than seekers. He said the step will lead to progress of the region and contribute towards State’s economy and form a turning point in every aspect of the livelihood of the people of the region at large.
