Srinagar: Below is the timeline of weeklong public events held within and outside J&K :-
1. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led the foundation stone laying ceremony for YatriBhawan at Mata KheerBhawani Temple in Tulmulla, Ganderbal, marking the auspicious occasion of JyeshthaAshtami. Paying homage to Mata KheerBhawani, he prayed for peace, prosperity, and happiness for all devotees.
2. Five residents from the Nowshera sector of Rajouri have been honoured by the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their courageous act in thwarting a major cross-border narcotics smuggling attempt. The incident, which occurred in April this year in Village Makdi beyond the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS), resulted in the recovery of a substantial consignment of heroin.
3. Security has been intensified across Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir as a precautionary measure ahead of Prime Minister NarendraModi’s visit to Srinagar on June 20 to mark International Yoga Day.
4. National Security Advisor AjitDoval will continue in his present role in the NarendraModi-led NDA government which was sworn in on June 9. The Appointment Committee of Cabinet on Wednesday approved the appointment of AjitDoval as the National Security Advisor with effect from June 10, 2024. Doval, who became NSA for the first time in May 2014 soon after PM Modi assumed office in his first term, continued in the role in the previous BJP-led NDA government.
5. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired the Governing Body Meeting of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday. This was the first meeting following the reconstitution of the Governing Body of SKIMS, Soura, Srinagar.
6. The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has announced the results of the annual regular examinations for class 10th across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh union territories, scoring a commendable overall pass percentage of 79.25%. Out of the 146,136 candidates who appeared for the exams, 115,816 students successfully cleared them.
7. The School Education Department (SED) of Jammu and Kashmir union territory has issued a directive mandating that morning assemblies in all educational institutions commence with the National Anthem, effective immediately.In an official circular issued by Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of SED, it was emphasized that the practice of starting the school day with morning assemblies plays a crucial role in fostering unity and discipline among students. The circular noted that this tradition also serves as a platform to promote moral values, community spirit, and mental well-being among students.
8. Sinthan Top, once a lesser-known tourist spot, has become a magnet for tourists this year. Situated at an elevation of nearly 12,123 feet, Sinthan Top connects the Anantnag and Kishtwar districts, serving as an offbeat yet increasingly popular destination.
9. Official figures indicate that between March 1 and June 11 this year, 70,862 tourists, comprising locals, domestic travelers, and foreigners, have visited Daksum and subsequently explored Sinthan Top from the Anantnag side.
10. Lieutenant Governor ManojSinha today chaired a high-level security review meeting with officials of the J&K Police and Civil Administration at the Police Headquarters in Jammu. In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor assured the public that those responsible for the attack on pilgrims in Reasi, as well as their accomplices, would be punished.
11. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in a high-level meeting with senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) here in the national capital, and directed to call another detailed meeting on June 16 over the issue. Shah conducted the meeting in the wake of recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, which have raised concerns about the security arrangements in the region
