Governor Satya Pal Malik this week in yet another provocative remark over the prevailing situation in Kashmir valley virtually tried to rub the salt into the wounds of Kashmiri youth by saying “Kashmir is an issue for youth in the age group of 13-23 years” hinting that the absence of cinema halls and sports grounds prompts youth to join stone pelting crowds and militant remarks in Kashmir valley. The Governor’s remarks are in total contradiction to the ground realities in Kashmir which speak volumes about the failure of the governor’s administration in dealing with the angry crowds hitting streets against civilian killings in clashes with the government forces. Absolutely disgusting it is that governor’s remarks show his complete ignorance about the activities of youth in the evening hours. Saying that ‘youth in the age group of 13-23 years are misguided to do something else after 6.00 P.M’ conveys the message that governor tends to dub all Kashmir youth as stone pelters and militants. Perhaps Deputy Commissioners and district SPs of Kashmir Valley have not righty informed the Governor Satya Pal Malik about the activities of youth in the evening hours. Even naives in Kashmir know that youth in the age group of 13-23 years attend classes in the overcrowded tuition centers in morning and evening hours in summer across Kashmir and they find it difficult to attend gym centres for physical fitness training in summer months when they attend schools, colleges and universities from 8.00 A.M to 3.00 P.M.
Governor’s factually incorrect remark is by all standards of understand abilities is a disrespect to basic public sentiment of the youth about the situation in Kashmir which has been dominating the proceedings in the parliament the highest law making body of the country. The situation in Kashmir is as good a concern for old aged Kashmir as it is for the youth.
More over the mushroom growth of gym centres in Kashmir shows the increasing tendency of youth in the physical fitness training Perhaps the administrative secretaries of the school and higher education departments besides Deputy Commissioners and district SPs of Kashmir valley deserve an explanation for misinforming the Governor Satya Pal Malik about the activities of youth in the evening hours in Kashmir valley. A governor not informed well about the activities of youth in the post and pre schooling hours in volatile Kashmir valley by the administrative secretaries of school and higher education departments and the deputy commissioners and district SPs of Kashmir valley can’t speak about the factual position on the ground realities in Kashmir valley. Governor’s factually incorrect remark is by all standards of understandabilities is a disrespect to basic public sentiment of the youth about the situation in Kashmir which has been dominating the proceedings in the parliament the highest law making body of the country. The situation in Kashmir is as good a concern for old aged Kashmir as it is for the youth.
