Srinagar/Jan, 8: A militant was on Tuesday killed in a brief shootout in Zahidporaarea of Litter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district after which clashes erupted in the area. .
Srinagar based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said that the militants attacked an army patrolling party of 55 RR in Zahidpora area of Pulwama district and army retaliated, triggering exchange of fire that resulted in the killing of one militant. He said weapon has been recovered from the possession of the slain militant and a manhunt launched to arrest the other militants is continuing in the area.
The slain militant is reported to have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Rather, son of Azad Ahmad of Rajpora village of the the district.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in the area with youth pelting the forces with stones to disrupt their operation. The forces, according to witnesses resorted to tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters.
Searches were going on in the area despite clashes when last reports came
