Srinagar: Senior Congress leader Prof. Saifuddin Soz Friday urged upon the Government of India and the Government of Pakistan to agree to the opening of Kargil-Iskardu Road and the road to ancient Sharda Temple to honour the aspirations of the people of Kashmir and the people of Ladakh region.
“The people of Kargil district have had close relationship with Iskardu. In fact people of both areas happen to be having common culture, language and ethnicity,” he said.
“I have been taking up this matter with Govt. of India for a pretty long time. I have been, particularly, taking up the matter regarding opening of the road to the historic Sharda Temple located in PAK.”
“I have a feeling of relief in my mind to tell my readers that Sultan Zainul Abideen, (Ruled Kashmir from 1420–1470) had crossed 11000 feet high Razdani Mountain on foot to reach the Sharda Temple and ensure its safety. It is deeds like this that made Sultan Zainul Abideen, the BUD-SHAH.”
He said the demand for opening this historic road has been voiced by people of Kargil for decades. There is no apparent difficulty in opening this road.
Similarly, the demand of Kashmiri Pandit community for opening road to ancient Sharda Temple is very genuine and it would be a great gesture to respect the aspirations of the people to open this temple for devotees.”
