Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan along with the Executive Councillor for Horticulture Aga Syed Mujtaba Wednesday flagged off a group of 40 farmers to Leh for exposure and training on latest interventions in Horticulture under the centrally sponsored schemes Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA).
During the five-day tour which is being organized by the Department of Horticulture Kargil, the group of farmers will visit SKUAST K Complex Leh, Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Centre Leh and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Leh.
The farmers will get exposure to various techniques particularly vermicomposting, control of pests and diseases of fruit crops especially codling moth, apricot drying and use of solar energy for apricot drying in more efficient way, homemade fungicides and insecticides and growing of vegetables in green houses in winter.
The trainees are also slated to attend interactions with scientists, field experts and their counterpart farmers from Leh to assess opportunities, requirements and benefits of adopting modern technologies on crop production.
On the occasion, the CEC said that the Council is fully committed to give fillip to Horticulture as a priority sector and a number of steps have been initiated to educate and enlighten farmers about modern techniques to help them increase their production and improve their living standards.
Interacting with the farmers, the CEC and the EC Horticulture impressed upon them to take full benefit from the inputs acquired from the training programme so as to equip themselves with latest knowledge and technical know-how for increasing efficiency and productivity in Horticulture.
Chief Horticulture Officer Kargil Sarbajit Singh, District Horticulture Officer Kargil Ali Raza, Horticulture Development Officers and other officers and officials were present on the occasion.
