Though Governor Satya Pal Malik being a man from political background was expected to use his political wisdom and administrative acumen for restoring political stability in Jammu & Kashmir state but his actions trigger controversies and statements generate confusions. He predicts the future of politicians as if he is an astrologer and condemns regional mainstream political parties the way as if he is the state BJP President or the founder leader of Sajad Lone’s Peoples Conference. In October this year he said Srinagar Municipal Corporation(SMC) is likely to have a highly educated Mayor at the helm and dropped enough hints at the possibility of Junaid Matoo a dissident National Conference leader becoming the Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) almost a fortnight before the commencement of municipal elections in the state. Almost a month later Governor amended Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Act to allow secret ballot voting to increase the possibilities of horse trading in the election of Mayor. Interestingly Junaid Matoo the candidate of one political combination was elected Mayor but the candidate of the rival political combine Sheik Imran was elected Deputy Mayor and by the dint of his actions Governor proved himself a promoter of political defections and by virtue of his statements he proved himself an astrologer as Matoo was elected Mayor. Thank God Junaid Matoo had not to go any palmist to know the fate of his candidature for the position of Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation. Today Governor Malik says that had he taken the opinion of Delhi the Peoples’ Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone would have become Chief Minister of the state but claims that neither Mehbooba Mufti the PDP President nor the Peoples’ Conference Chairman Sajad Lone had required numbers to form a new government in the state. Not a politician but only an astrologer can predict about the outcome of a floor test which Governor should have ordered before shooting off a formal invitation letter to either PDP President or Sajad Gani Lone for the formation of a new government in Jammu and Kashmir state.
It has been proved beyond doubt that Sajad Ghani Lone’s Peoples’ Conference and BJP despite putting in their best could not persuade the required number of MLAs from PDP to defect to their side since last five months and Governor had to retract his own statement on keeping the assembly in suspended animation when he saw three major political parties PDP, National Conference and Congress coming together with the support of more than fifty MLA to form a new government in the state and found no other option but to dissolve the assembly. For Governor Malik it was an unavoidable compulsion but not a constitutional decision. Alas the coming together of PDP, NC and Congress has failed Governor’s palmistry on keeping the assembly in suspended animation!
As otherwise it has been proved beyond doubt that Sajad Ghani Lone’s Peoples’ Conference and BJP despite putting in their best could not persuade the required number of MLAs from PDP to defect to their side since last five months and Governor had to retract his own statement on keeping the assembly in suspended animation when he saw three major political parties PDP, National Conference and Congress coming together with the support of more than fifty MLA to form a new government in the state and found no other option but to dissolve the assembly.
