Shopian: Sheep Husbandry Department Shopian Monday started a massive vaccination program of sheep and goats against “goat plague” disease.
The program was kickstarted by Additional District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Saleem in presence of District Sheep Husbandry Officer Shopian, Dr Rafeeq Ahmad Shah.
Speaking on the occasion, ADDC said goat plague disease is an acute, highly contagious and trans-boundary viral disease of sheep and goats with variable rates of morbidity and mortality, so vaccination has become essential to protect the livestock. He stressed on maintenance of complete asepsis while carrying the vaccination. ADDC also flagged of a team of paravets who will vaccinate the Sheep and Goats in far-flung areas of the District and expressed satisfaction over the work culture of the department.
While interacting with the sheep breeders, ADDC assured them for the redressal of their genuine demands
During the program, a total no. of 87000 Sheep and Goats will be vaccinated within the period of two months in the district.
