Srinagar : Junaid Azim Mattu the independent councilor and Ghulam Rasool Hajjam the Congress councilor from Batamaloo are locked in a straight contest for the post of Mayor SMC scheduled to be held on November 6 (Tuesday) and similarly the independent councilor Sheikh Imran will take on Mohammad Salaam Lone the councilor from ward No 58 for the post of Deputy Mayor.
In a statement issued on Friday the Srinagar Municipal Corporation said “for the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation, Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattu councilor from ward No 14, 18,& 65 and Ghulam Rasool Hajam councilor from ward No. 30 have filed their nomination papers in SMC today for the post of Mayor.”
The statement further reads “Similarly for the post of Deputy Mayor Mr Sheikh Imran councillor from ward No 2 and Mr. Mohammad Salaam Lone councilor from Ward No.58 have filed their nomination papers.”
“The election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor shall be held in the 1st session of the general Council of Municipal Corporation, Srinagar scheduled on 6th November 2018,” statement further reads.
