The strained Indo-Pak relations did not end as usual even during the UN General Assembly session in New York as the two countries as usual traded charges over Kashmir and the stalled composite dialogue process. Since 1947 India and Pakistan have been trading charges over Kashmir issue and this usual practice was following even during the years of good neighbourly relations between the two countries. Neither trading charges at the International forums like United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) nor the trading of guns on borders has brought India and Pakistan closer to any agreement over Kashmir required for durable peace in the region nor will it be so any time in the coming years. On Saturday last week, both India and Pakistan reiterated their respective stands only to show continuing animosity in their bilateral relation at the annual session of the highest world body. So non serious are the two countries over the issues of re-approachment for reconciliation and dialogue over contentious that India called Pakistan “Terroristan” and Pakistan called India “Mother of terrorism”. Let both New Delhi and Islamabad bear it in mind that by mocking at each other at the annual session of the biggest world body both India and Pakistan are bringing down the level of diplomatic decency to its lowest. Not the confrontation at the annual meetings of the world bodies but dialogue on contentious issues with a well defined road map is the only way to resolve bilateral conflict between India and Pakistan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi talk too much about the applicability of the Vajpayee’s Kashmir in the current political scenario in Jammu but does not budge even an inch from his own government’s policy of diplomatic and military hostility with Pakistan.
Both India and Pakistan know the saboteurs on both sides always look for incident which stalls the bilateral dialogue process but governments both in New Delhi and Islamabad have to work on the agenda of conflict resolution so seriously that misadventures don’t come in way of the resumption of the bilateral talks for a long drawn conflict resolution process. Since the dispute over Kashmir is the mother of all military and diplomatic conflicts witness since 1947 , so it is the responsibility of both India and Pakistan to address the political concerned of the people of Jammu & Kashmir in the composite dialogue. Unless and until both New Delhi and Islamabad don’t agree to work on a common agenda for restoration of peace and political stability in Jammu & Kashmir the normalization in bilateral relations is not even remotest possibility. So talks for reaching a consensus over an agenda of peace and conflict resolution is a pre-requisite for normalization of relations between the two countries. Since the Vajpayee doctrine on Kashmir had not only smoothened the process of peace and political stability in Jammu & Kashmir but had also led to the normalization of bilateral relations between India and Pakistan, so better it would be New Delhi and Islam to work on agenda of peace and conflict resolution set out by erstwhile Vajpayee government. Unfortunately Prime Minister Narendra Modi talk too much about the applicability of the Vajpayee’s Kashmir in the current political scenario in Jammu but does not budge even an inch from his own government’s policy of diplomatic and military hostility with Pakistan.
