Srinagar : One of the two militants killed in a gunfight in Athoora Kreeri yesterday has been identified as a teenager from Khanpora area of Baramulla. The identity of the slain duo couldn’t be established till late last night. However, the family members of one of the slain militants were called for the identification, who identified one as their kin, Aqeel Rashid Sofi (17) of Khanpora. Sofi had joined the militant organisation LeT on September 5 this year and was a close associate of LeT commander Suhaib Akhoon who too happens to be a resident of Khanpora.
The second militant killed in the gunfight has been identified as a resident of Sopore. Reports said that the second militant whose identity remained unknown since Thursday evening this week was recognized by his family members Friday. They identified him as Minhajul Mohi u din Mir, son of Ghulam Mohi u din Mir of Brath Kalan Sopore.
His body was handed over to his family Friday following which it was taken to his native Brath Kalan village where a large number of people have assembled to take part in his last rites.
Police on Friday said that it has identified both the militants killed in a gunfight in Athoora village of Kreeri area in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district Thursday this week.
